Anil Bawa-Cavia works with computational media. In 2009 he founded a speculative software studio, STD-IO. His practice engages with machine learning, algorithms, protocols, encodings, and other software artefacts.

He has lectured, published and exhibited internationally at institutions such as Jan van Eyck Academie, ZKM, The New Centre for Research, SPACE Studios, HKW and Medialab Prado.

His doctoral research at the Center for Advanced Spatial Analysis (CASA) was on the topic of complexity in urbanism and is archived at URBAGRAM.

He has over a decade of experience creating software platforms. He currently works at Artsy as Director of Data.
